Expanded Cork Insulation Boards
Natural thermal and acoustic insulation for walls, roofs and floors in retrofit and new build.
What are Expanded Cork Boards?
Expanded cork insulation boards (ICB) are rigid insulation boards manufactured from natural cork granules.
The cork is expanded using heat, allowing its naturally occurring resins to bind the granules together without the need for added synthetic binders.
The result is a durable insulation material suitable for a wide range of building applications.
Where Cork Boards Work
External Walls
Suitable for external wall insulation systems, ventilated façades and other compatible wall build-ups.
Internal Walls
Can be used for internal wall insulation and other applications where thermal performance and moisture management are important.
Roofs
Suitable for pitched and flat roof applications as part of an appropriate roof build-up.
Floors
Can be incorporated into floor systems to provide thermal and acoustic insulation.
Thermal & Acoustic Performance
Expanded cork provides both thermal and acoustic insulation from the same material.
Its cellular structure helps reduce heat transfer while also helping to absorb sound and vibration.
Breathable by Nature
Cork is naturally vapour-permeable, making expanded cork boards particularly relevant to vapour-open construction and retrofit.
This can be important when working with traditional buildings where allowing moisture to move through the building fabric needs to be considered.
Renewable Insulation
Cork is harvested from the bark of the cork oak without cutting down the tree.
The bark regenerates and can be harvested repeatedly throughout the life of the tree, providing a renewable raw material for insulation.
Part of a Cork-Based System
Expanded cork boards can be combined with compatible breathable finishes, including Isolocork Spray cork, to create cork-based wall and insulation systems.
